We’ve been using BugZilla for a while now and one thing that had me irritated is the ability to filter the list of bugs that I’ve searched for. My options were to re-run the search with the parameters that I wanted to have filtered, or export the entire search into a CSV file and process it into a spreadsheet application like Excel.

There had to be a better way. Downloaded Greasemonkey and got to work with jQuery. Hacking away at the pages in BugZilla for a couple of hours and I was done.

This script allows you to filter the bugs from the list of displayed bugs. Filtering works on all columns visible in the list.

<del datetime="2011-06-17T10:23:28+00:00">To user the script, you need to setup the include (@include) URL to point to your bugzilla installation root, e.g., http://bugzilla.server.com.or.ip/*</del><del datetime="2011-06-17T10:23:28+00:00"></del>

The script currently works on any URL that has string “bugzilla” in the setup. The @include URL in the source points to http://*bugzilla.*. If you don’t have this string in the URL, modify the @include URL in the script.

After installing, open up BugZilla and list bug in your browser. Click on any column (the actual value in the table and not the header) to filter. Click on the column value again to un-filter.

Download & Install

Download the script here. If you have already installed the Greasemonkey FireFox Add-On, the Install Script dialog should come up when you click the link.

Features

Filters on any visible coloumn.

Removes filter on clicking of the filtered column.

Filter multiple columns.

Filtering/Restoring works independently for all columns.

Updates the bug count after filtering.

Highlights the filtered columns so that you don’t loose track of what has been filtered.

Revision History

Version 0.3

Changed the @include url to http://*bugzilla.* which will make it work any bugzilla setup that has “bugzilla” in the host part.

I have tested the script with FireFox 3.6.x, 4 and BugZilla 3.4.5

QR Codes have made entering text, especially on mobile devices very easy. This comes in very handy when you have to either search for something, or the text you want to enter is quite lengthy and random, e.g., WiFi keys for one.

A quick Google search on qr code generator results in a lot hits, but mainly for online generators. Like me, there will be people who will be skeptical about sharing sensitive data online just to generate a QR Code. I was looking for an offline generator and found one by the name of
qrencode
.

Installation

qrencode if small and nifty and does the job perfectly. As is common with most of FOSS, there are multiple ways to install qrencode.

1. Automated Install – Desktop

Fire up Ubuntu Software Center and search for qrencode. Once found, install and start using (Usage instructions below).

2. Automated Install – Command Line

sudo apt-get install qrencode

and thats it. Follow the on screen instructions to install and start using it right away.

3. Manual Install

There is also an option to install qrencode from source. Click qrencode anywhere on this page to go their website and download the source. Instructions to compile and install are available there on the website.

Usage Instructions

Usage of qrencode is quite simple. Here is an example:

qrencode -o path/to/file.png '[text/url/whatever_you_want_to_encode]'

This will generate an output file named
file.png
at the location you provided and will contain the scanable QR Code with the information you provided. Thats it!

For those of you who want more information, here is the help output from qrencode:

qrencode version 3.1.1
Copyright (C) 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 Kentaro Fukuchi
Usage: qrencode [OPTION]... [STRING]
Encode input data in a QR Code and save as a PNG image.

-h display this message.
--help display the usage of long options.
-o FILENAME write PNG image to FILENAME. If '-' is specified, the result
will be output to standard output. If -S is given, structured
symbols are written to FILENAME-01.png, FILENAME-02.png, ...;
if specified, remove a trailing '.png' from FILENAME.
-s NUMBER specify the size of dot (pixel). (default=3)
-l {LMQH} specify error collectin level from L (lowest) to H (highest).
(default=L)
-v NUMBER specify the version of the symbol. (default=auto)
-m NUMBER specify the width of margin. (default=4)
-S make structured symbols. Version must be specified.
-k assume that the input text contains kanji (shift-jis).
-c encode lower-case alphabet characters in 8-bit mode. (default)
-i ignore case distinctions and use only upper-case characters.
-8 encode entire data in 8-bit mode. -k, -c and -i will be ignored.
-V display the version number and copyrights of the qrencode.
[STRING] input data. If it is not specified, data will be taken from
standard input.

There are plenty of mobile applications available to scan the QR Codes using phone’s camera. E.g., Android users can use Barcode Scanner (my favorite).

Update:

iPhone: QRafter (Thanks to my brother for pointing this out)

Honda announced today that they are going to produce the CBR250R in Asia, Thailand and India to be precise. There has been a lot of speculation regarding the launch of new Honda bikes and their launch in India. Multiple sites have announced its launch, but today, it comes from a very credible source – Honda. The Honda CBR250R world site is open here.

Honda CBR250R. Source: world.honda.com

HMSI is going to start production of the bike in India early next year and is going to utilize the regional suppliers to ensure affordable pricing. This will ensure that the bike will be a tough competition to the Kawasaki Ninja 250R. Manufacturing bikes in India is a really smart move. This will ensure that the ridiculously high import duties are not going to be levied in this case and this might be quite affordable. The Indian production facility is going to not only going to cater to the Indian subcontinent, but also the South American markets.

First impressions about the bike? Well, I’m not a track guy and racing is not my thing. I like long distance touring. When I first looked at the pictures, I loved the bike, but thought that this is not something that is conducive to touring. But when I saw the video, I had second thoughts. The seating is not really crouched down to make touring all that difficult. However, I will reserve final judgment for when I see the bike in person.

The technical specifications are wonderful, but having ridden a Machismo 500 LB, I’m not sure how pleased I will be. Its definitely going to be a lot less torquey, but a lot more fun nevertheless. Another thing that I liked about the bike is the ABS. Yes, you read it right, ABS as in Anti-lock Braking System.

Though the production is going to start only next year (by spring, as per the press release), the news has got me excited. If they price it right, I might even sell my Machismo 500LB and buy the CBR250R.

The Indian bike enthusiasts are now really spoilt for choice. With Ninja already on sale, Mahindra announcing their 300cc Mojo, the CBR250R is only going to sweeten the deal. Up until now, the only Indian bikes above the 250cc mark were the Royal Enfields. And as any Royal Enfield owner will tell you, its a love hate relationship.

Let us look at the choices that one has at their disposal.

Kawasaki Ninja 250R (already on sale).

Mahindra Mojo (300cc, launched, not yet on sale).

Honda CBR250R (announced, production yet to start).

Royal Enfield Classic 500 (already on sale).

Royal Enfield Classic 350 (already on sale).

Royal Enfield Thunderbird Twinspark (already on sale).

Royal Enfield Electra Twinspark (already on sale).

Royal Enfield Bullet 350 UCE (already on sale).

Apart from these, the following bikes, though in the sub-250cc category, have already established their place in the biker community.

Bajaj Pulsar 220 (aka, the fasted indian, already on sale).

Yamaha R15 (already on sale).

TVS Apache 180 (already on sale).

And the list does not end here. There are quite a few more, but you get the point.

So, come next year, we will see a lot of influx of good, high performance bikes in the Indian market.

To continue from where we left off, Rajeev and Maneesh are now waiting for Ravi @ the 20th milestone after Madikeri town center. Meanwhile, Anand and I keep trying, in futility, to get Ravi on the phone. Rajeev and Maneesh are carrying Udai’s phone, while we have my phone to keep us connected. It doesn’t matter how slow you ride, it just couldn’t have taken Ravi the amount of time it has to reach where we’re at. Do keep in mind that by the time we started our journey to Cherambane, Ravi and co. were just 10-15 minutes behind us.

It is now almost 11, 10:50 PM to be exact. You know what happens next. After that we immediately call up Rajeev and asked if Ravi has passed them and get a negative reply. Poor guys are standing there in pitch darkness. They’re using their cellphones to shine their faces for any passing bikes! Imagine the surprise on their face seeing 2 guys, standing in the middle of nowhere and shining their faces with mobile phones. It takes some courage and hats off to both of them.

Another half hour passes by and no news of them. So we ask Rajeev and Maneesh to wait for another 10/15 minutes, else return. They on their part, went out on the limb and waited till midnight. That’s when we asked them to return to base.

It was hardly 5 minutes that they would’ve started their return journey to base camp that we get a call from an unknown number on my cell. I am used to getting calls at all times, from unknown numbers, only to find that some numb finger a*$ dialed a wrong number or some cross connection. I have tuned myself to ignore such calls and given the fact that we’re missing 3 men, out in the middle of nowhere, was in mood to entertain any such crap. Something told me answer the call and I did. I hear Ravi on the other end and am elated. At this time, Anand and I are handling the phone like a ticking time bomb that can go anytime for the fear of loosing the connection if we move it! We froze as is and spoke to Ravi. Turns out, Ravi has found a truck driver in the wilderness and that guy has been kind enough to lend his phone (a BSNL connection, I might add ) to Ravi.

We tried to find out where they’re at. I asked Ravi to put the truck driver back on the line. I ask the truck driver about their location, and he jokingly retorts – I know where I’m at, where are you? (Of course he retorts in kannada, which I could understand, but given my rudimentary hold of the language, cannot recollect the exact sentence spoken).

We giving directions to the truck driver would be like blind leading the blind! So w/o trying out any antics and figuring where we’re at and they’re at, we asked Ravi and team to get back to Madikeri town center and wait for us to come pick them up. Oh and about the truck driver, this isn’t the last of him yet! Watch out for him in the next episode.

Now at base camp, Rajeev and Maneesh return with a sad face. We tell them about the conversation and their faces lighten up. We ask them to settle down, have a drink and something to eat, while we go and pick up the gang. Everything goes as expected from here on. Anand and I pick them at the town center and by 2:00 AM, every man is accounted for at base camp.

Having started almost 11 hours ago, I was exhausted and just lay down with my head on the pillow. I could hear the guys on the portico laughing and joking about the string of events and having a merry time. All is well and its lights out for me.

I wake up to chirping birds next morning. No alarm required, the body knows when it has had enough and wakes up automatically. Darn body never wakes up at that hour in Bangalore.

Good Morning Coorg!

Initially the plan was to go to Kannur with two of my friends. But a change of plans and they planned to leave at 4AM on Friday instead of 3PM. This means that I had to take leave on Friday, which just couldn’t happen as I already have got approvals for 15day leave in July for the Ladakh trip. So I dropped the plan with a heavy heart.

Then over a smoke, Anand tells me that even he wants to come to Kannur and I respond with the above facts. 2 droopy faces contemplating and just like that we said, if not Kannur, lets go to Coorg. I quickly call up the usual suspects and the first one cannot make it. The second person I called, Salman, said he is already heading out to coorg that night and I ask him to hook us up in the place where he is staying. With that settled, the word got around the office like wildfire!

Before we knew it, Rajeev, Ravi and 2 of Ravi’s friends had joined in for the trip. Anand, however, was dreading the fact that he had to do the journey as a pillion and kept whining about how his butt is going to be sore by the end of it all

Luckily for him, even Maneesh decided to jump in and finally Anand had a driving buddy. So the final plan is 3 bullets, 1 pulsar 150 and 1 santro with 7 guys to leave for Coorg @ 2:00 PM. The reason we chose this ungodly hour to leave town is due to a lunch commitment that I could not get out of. I told the guys that we’ll meet at the Bannerghatta road enterance of the NICE road and leave by 2:00 PM.

At 1:15, while I’m attending a formal lunch, in my full riding gear , I get a call from Ravi to ask directions to NICE road. Ravi tells me that he’s leaving now and will call me when he reaches at the venue. Things with me got a bit delayed and I was able to leave the luncheon only by 2:00 PM. I quickly messaged they guys about the delay and that we’ll start by 2:30 PM. The moment I pressed the send button, I knew that I could not keep that time, but still tried hard. Luckily for me, I had packed all my stuff before leaving for the lunch and was already in my riding gear. Still the in-famous Bangalore traffic delayed me by another 30 mins and I was able to reach NICE road junction only @ 3!

When I reach there, I only see Anand and Maneesh in the Santro, with no sign of anyone. I myself being guilty of being late, couldn’t complain . I asked about Rajeev and came to know that the guy had already come by 2:15 and was waiting for us inside the NICE road. He couldn’t even come out as he had already paid the toll, so he preferred to wait there.

Now my concern was Ravi! Little did I know that he was going to be our concern for a good part of this trip. He called me @ 1:15 and asked for directions. Mind you, he stays in Koramangala, and no where from Koramangala to NICE road will take more that 45-50 mins, that too on a bike AND on a SATURDAY!!! So we wait. After a few more calls, we see Ravi and his friends pulling in @ 3:30. We were all ready by then and start riding out as soon as we see them.

A quick stop at the gas station for Anand and we start ripping towards Coorg. At first I decided to sweep and asked Anand to lead. Rajeev was doing a good job of keeping up with the Santro, but Ravi and Kaushik (Ravi’s friend with the other bullet), just weren’t able to keep up the speed. We were already running late and their speed was making me sleepy, so I decided to entice them and zoomed off ahead just before Ramnagara. At their speed, we’d reach Coorg only by next morning! So we decided to split into two groups. Anand, Maneesh, Rajeev and I take the lead, while Maneesh, who was the co-passenger with Anand, kept in constant touch with Ravi to keep them abreast of the route and progress.

The fun started before Hunsur. I have been riding ahead of all and on a dark, deserted highway for the last 60 KMs and noticed that as the day gave into the night, most of the shops were closed. I make a quick stop to buy some ciggarettes and then zoom off again, thinking we’ll have a smoke break in the next town. With no sign of any towns showing up (I will find out the next day that towns were there alright, but everything was closed and deserted at the time when we passed in the night ), I decide to take a quick stop at shop called Chandan Canteen for a quick smoke break. Rajeev, Anand and Maneesh also pull in shortly after I do. Ravi and friends have decided to have a stop at Cafe Coorg a few KMs before we stopped.

After this we started gunning as fast as can be expected (read sanely expected) and keep progressing towards Madikeri. 20 KMs before Madikeri, the road is nice and twisty, which I would love to ride in the daylight, but at this hour, it was a nigthmare! It was about 8:15 or so and we hit fog! I turned on my fogs and reduced my speed some. Then it started drizzling too. So there is fog, there is rain, but I can’t see anyone in my rear view mirror or in the front. Just pitch dark, nothing else. Suddenly, the bike starts gagging and I am like WTF!!! I had filled 11 ltr. while the bike was till in the mains before leaving and have travelled only 250 KMs or so by now, it cannot have hit reserve. This keeps nagging me while I crawl towards Madikeri and just couldn’t figure out why! Then it dawns on me – I did not note that the pump was zero’d out before the guy started filling my bike! Damn, plain stupid of me. And this is not the first time .

Never mind, meanwhile there is no reference nothing that can assure me that I’m on the right track. Once in a while I, on the left of the road, I spot a house like structure up on a slope and this gives me hope! If something happens, I can atleast go there and ask for help, whether it would be forthcoming or not, I did not know. Finally, I see a sign post with 5/6 places mentioned in different direction, but no Madikeri. This could only mean two things – either I am in Madikeri, or I am way off track (that too with a Mach 500 running in reserve, which no one in sight before or after me!). Then I see a board which says Hotel Merryscot, Madikeri and an arrow points in the direction that I was heading in. Phew, atleast I’m on the right track .

Just a few KMs down the road I see APMC Yard, Madikeri and I breathed a sigh of relief. I wait here for others to catch up while I have quick smoke and call up Salman. He passes on the number of the Cloud Valley owner to me and I come to know that this place is still about 30 KMs from here. The first thing I do after getting directions is to look for a petrol bunk that is open @ 9:30 PM in Madikeri. But luck has something else in store for me. Forget petrol bunks, nothing is open, not one shop. There is only one way, forward and we decide to take it.

Initially we thought we’ll wait for Ravi and co. to catch up, but it was already late and from the sound of it, the home stay owner sounded a bit irritated. So we decided to get to the place and keep giving Ravi directions to follow us. We’ve been doing that all this while, how hard can it be to follow simple directions. Boy, I haven’t been more wrong in my life!

Luckily for me, most of the ride from here, was downhill and I managed to do it while keeping the bike in neutral and slight rev. Had to do that from keeping the battery going kaput! Petrol I can find, but battery goes kaput, I’m dead. We meet up with Udai, the Cloud Valley owner, just before the 20th milestone and he guided us to the cottage. This was another 3KM winding path in the jungle to the cottage. At 10:30 PM, 7 hours after we started, we’re finally here!

We found the food ready and waiting for us. But before all that can happen, we had to ensure Ravi and co. were on the right track. Quick look around and we found that none of our cell phones had network coverage! My BSNL had 1/2 bars. Now the thing is, Ravi and co. have Airtel and Vodafone, which after Madikeri town, go out of range! We look at each other blank faced. Udai was kind enough to lend us his phone, a Reliance connection that had coverage there, for the night so that we can track Ravi and co. In the last converstation with Ravi, Maneesh had told him how to get our of Madikeri towards the cottage. Now, without the network coverage, there was only one way to ensure that we get them here, to go back to Udai picked us up and wait for them. Rajeev and Maneesh left on Rajeev’s bike and camped near the 20th milestone waiting for them.

There is one thing that I’ve wanted to do ever since I’ve bought the bullet in July ’09, that is the Leh/Ladakh trip. The stock bike that comes from the factory, though adequate, left me wanting for more. I’ve been Googling the mods that one can do on the Machismo 500. Now, more than 10 months later, I have a few mods that I’ve been able to get done and here is a summary of all.

Seating:
I’m a short guy. About 5.9 and the stock seat on the bullet, although, sufficient, left me uncomfortable. Especially on the signals when I have to put my foot, where I found myself doing a balancing act on my toes. So, not surprisingly, this was the first mod I tried. Mithun from HSR services told me to go to “Rao Seats” in Shivajinagar to get the best seats. A quick asking around people, and everybody told me to go to Rao. I got the split seats set from him and put on my bike right away. There was a world of a difference.

Never would I have ever thought that just an inch or two off the seat will make such a difference!! I could now place both my feet flat on the road when waiting for the signal to turn green. And whats more, I could put the stand of my bike without having to get down.

Cost of two split seats: Rs. 1600/- INR.

Ease of use: Amazing riding comfort and confidence.

My Rating: 5 star

Action Shots:

Handle bar:
Next came the handle bar. Although the handle bar on Machismo is the best in trade (for its class of bikes), it was still a little stiff for me. A quick round go Googling again, lead me to this. I had seen Shiv riding with the RD bar when he did IBA and called him up. Picking his brains for a while and thats it, my mind was made up. I went to Thirumala Auto Accessories on JC Road and got the handle bar fit.

An hour later, I rode away from the shop with the gleaming new handlebar and another boost in my riding comfort, which also resulted in a more confident ride.

Cost of RD Handlebar: Rs. 150/- INR

Fitting charges: Rs. 150/- INR

Ease of use: Amazing riding comfort and confidence.

My Rating: 5 star!

Fog lights:
With the above two mods, my riding comfort and confidence skyrocketed. But there was still something that kept nagging at the back of my mind. I had done a few rides which involved riding in the night. And there was also that ride to Sringeri, where I encountered fog for the first time. The stock lights that come with Machismo 500 LB are just plain useless @ night. With them, you’re riding blind anyway.

Before the Sringeri ride, there was a wave of fog light installations that started in the group, but none of it grabed my attention. A little more googling led me to Hella site. I spoke to the sales manager in Delhi and Chennai. The product, although good, the cost was prohibitive. A set of 2 Hella MicroDe lights was a whopping 5.5k INR! So that option went down the drain as well.

Then, one day, I was just ogling at my Swift VXi and an idea hit me like a bolt out of the blue! A quick googling again, led me to Alok Kulkarni, who had put the fog lamps of a Scorpio on his bike and got his job done from the famous Anthony of Mumbai. With that settled, I ripped out the fogs from my car and headed over to Vijay’s garage. We had to do some work to get the clamps made as we did not get anything ready made. A day’s work and presto, the lights were installed. Wiring done and I was on cloud number 9!!

Cost of Fog Lamps: Rs. 2100/- INR for a set of 2 (but free for me as I ripped them out of my car).

Cost of Switches: Rs. 20/- INR

Cost of Mounting clamp: Rs. 500/- INR.

Cost of Wire: Rs. 15/- INR.

Ease of use: Great visibility, and looks just plain awesome

My Rating: 5 Star!

Action Shots:

12v Accessory Socket and Switches:
After the lights were added, I was still a bit unhappy. Primarily, because the positioning of the switches. The lights are mounted on my leg guard and the switches under them. Switching on/off meant I had to bent down and operate the switches one at a time, which leads to loss in concentration and for me personally, was a pain in the a$$.

Another thought that kept nagging me was a puncture kit. So I headed over to JC road and bought the spanner, tyre removing rods, patches, sand paper, vulcanizing fluid, valves and the valve key. The idea of carrying around the foot pump did not appeal to me, so I did not buy. Also, I knew that BB has a pump and he can carry it, I have the rest of the kit. Then, I found Slime’s Power Sport Tire Inflator. I’m still trying to buy this, but its not available in India. Meanwhile, a colleague of mine got Coido as a gift. I quickly borrowed it and tested with my car. Worked like a charm. Now how to get it to work with the bike, as there may not always be a car traveling with us.

The problem with Coido was that, unlike Slime, it came only with the 12v accessory socket plug. Again, I had seen one on Shiv’s bike, but it was a contraption and not safe to mount it under the seat. I went to JC road, bought one cheap socket, and been thinking ways of fitting it on the bike, to no avail. I would ideally, like to put it in the right toolbox compartment on my Mach 500LB, but the air filter was in it, so that ruled it out unless I put a conical KnN filter and removed the pancake filter to get the box.

Yesterday, when Vijay was servicing my bike, he had an idea and told me that I can run the bike on the Standard 350′s air filter, which will also give me access to the box to put the 12v accessory socket. What an idea sirji!! That’s it, I took Vijay’s bike (A lightning 535 and wow, what a bike!!) and got the spares from JC road.

With the newly acquired real estate, Vijay fit the socket in there and after some cajoling, he also put the switches to my fog lamps there. Wallah, my dream of getting a 12V Accessory Socket and a more intuitive positioning of the fog lamps switches was fulfilled.

Cost of 12v Accessory Socket: Rs. 120/- INR.

Cost of Switches for the lamps: Rs. 100/- INR.

Cost of Wire: Rs. 32/- INR.

Vijay’s ingenuity in fixing the switches – Priceless

Ease of use: Placement of the switches now allows me to switch on/off at anytime without compromising anything

My Rating: 10 star!!!

Action Shots:
12V Socket with lighter and switches:

12V Socket – Covered for rain protection:

Head light:
After all this, I still ran with the under powered stock headlight and decided to fix that once and for all. I bought the AutoPal dome and it comes with the p43t socket, unlike the stock p45t socket on the Mach 500 LB. Next, I bought the Phillips H4 Xtreme Power bulbs (a set of 2) and presto! A new world revealed. The light is really powerful, but not the white light, which is irritating.

Cost of Phillips H4 extreme power – Rs. 1400/- INR for a set of two.

Cost of AutoPal dome with p43t socket – Rs. 150 INR odd.

A quick google search lead me to ISO Recorder v 2. ISO Recorder v 2 is a Power Toy for XP and adds a new context menu item – “Copy Image to CD” as shown below.

It does the job pretty good. I have just burn’t the Lucid Lynx CD and will test it out. Hopefully an update to this post will be posted from Lucid Lynx.
